My boys are 6 and 2, and they absolutely love coloring. In fact, Thomas (my oldest son) colors much better than I do! Garrett (my youngest son) spend more time picking crazy color combinations, but they both bringing pictures to life with vision and color.
I also love story time before the kids go to bed. Before I wrote this blog post tonight, I sat with my boys as Thomas read a Scooby-Doo book to Garrett. I loved listening to how even a simple story comes alive. We can do the same things in our businesses.
People remember stories and connect with them. My friend Justin Lukasavige has adopted the ongoing theme of living a good story, which he discussed in a recent podcast on his popular CoachRadio series. Businesses can create great stories as well. However, those stories need to be very visual. Businesses are not people who can communicate through words. They need color, creativity, and imagination to capture the imagination of customers.
The business version of my boys coloring is the whiteboard. We can exercise our creativity and thinking by sketching ideas on that simple whiteboard that seems to be in every conference room. Even those who are artistically challenged like me can express ideas in colors, lines, and boxes to make our point. The whiteboard is the best way to demonstrate real creativity and forward thought in business.
Is your business a whiteboard business? Are you thinking of new and creative ways to turn ideas into profits? How are you identifying what truly makes your business successful?
